MQTT Configuration

This guide covers LPR camera delivery to Guardian over MQTT.

Required camera fields

Configure the following in your camera endpoint/output settings:

  • Protocol: MQTT
  • Broker Host/IP: <guardian-mqtt-host>
  • Broker Port: <guardian-mqtt-port> (commonly 1883 or 8883)
  • Topic: <guardian-mqtt-topic>
  • QoS: 0, 1, or 2 per deployment policy
  • Retain: enabled/disabled per deployment policy
  • Payload Format: JSON (or your expected format)
  • Publish Trigger: on event or interval

Example template

text
Protocol: MQTT
Broker Host: mqtt.guardian.example.com
Broker Port: 1883
Topic: guardian/lpr/events
QoS: 1
Retain: false
Payload Format: JSON
Publish Trigger: On Event

Expected behavior

After saving settings and generating an LPR event:

  • Camera publishes event to configured topic
  • Guardian subscriber receives and processes event

Verify success

  • Topic receives messages at expected cadence
  • Guardian event appears in expected stream/dashboard
  • Camera does not show repeated publish failures

Screenshots & Video

Use this consistent pattern when adding media.

1) Camera endpoint settings screen

MQTT endpoint settings

What to highlight: broker host, port, topic, QoS, retain, payload format.

2) Test publish clip

What to show in the clip: save action, test event trigger, publish success + Guardian receipt.
